A large slate of national music competitions and scholarships across performance, composition, music education, and music therapy for junior and student/collegiate musicians. Most individual awards require applicants to be native-born or naturalized U.S. citizens (a few endowed awards have exceptions) and, for some categories, NFMC membership.

Application requirements
- Read the NFMC Entrance Rules and the Competitions & Awards Chart: There is no single NFMC deadline: each competition has its own, listed on the downloadable Competitions & Awards Chart. Most awards require you to be a native-born or naturalized U.S. citizen, though the Lynn Freeman Olson Composition and Piano Pedagogy awards, the Ruth Morse Wilson Handbell Award, and International Music Camp are exceptions.
- Join NFMC in the division your competition is listed under: Membership must be in place BEFORE applications are accepted, and it must be in the matching division -- Junior entrants in the Junior Division, Student entrants in the Student/Collegiate Division. You may not enter competitions in multiple divisions in the same year even if you hold membership in more than one. Some awards are exempt from the membership rule, including the Young Artist and Ellis Piano Duo awards and the Summer Music Center awards.
- Print, complete, and MAIL the application form: NFMC is paper-based: you print the form and additional information sheets for your specific competition, then mail them, following that competition's own instructions. Leave postal time. First-place winners generally may not compete for the same award again.
- Contact the competition chairman with any questions: NFMC directs applicants to the individual competition's chairman for anything the rules do not cover.
