Fully funded scholarship supporting any full-time Stanford graduate degree (e.g., MA, MS, MBA, JD, MD, PhD); open to applicants of all fields from any country. Requires a bachelor's degree earned in 2020 or later and separate admission to a Stanford graduate program.

Application requirements

  • Submit Knight-Hennessy Scholars online application: Separate KHS application required in English via the online portal. Opens June 1, 2026; deadline October 6, 2026, 1:00 PM Pacific.
  • Apply concurrently to a Stanford graduate program: Must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program starting the same year, unless a listed exception applies.
  • Resume, transcript, and test scores: KHS requires resume, transcript, and test scores if required by your Stanford graduate program(s).
  • Two recommendation letters: Two recommenders who can address KHS criteria with specific examples. Due by the KHS deadline; you may submit before letters are received.
  • Short answers and essay: Three short answers (250/250/150 word limits) plus one 550-word essay.

    • Please tell us when you: a) engaged with someone with a different perspective, b) acted with courage, and c) fell short of expectations. 250 word limit combined
    • Please tell us eight improbable facts (things that are unlikely but true) about you. 150 word limit combined
    • Connect the dots. How have the influences in your life shaped you? 550 word limit
