A grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation supporting young representational/figurative artists worldwide who are studying or working in painting, sculpture, printmaking, or drawing, to fund studio practice, exhibitions, residencies, or fine-arts/studio-arts education. Grants of CAD $17,000 (first grant) to CAD $20,000 (second/third grants) may be awarded to an artist up to three times in their lifetime.

Application requirements

  • Complete the online Eligibility Questionnaire before starting an application: Applicants must first complete an Eligibility Questionnaire on the application portal to confirm they meet all eligibility criteria before an application can be submitted.
  • Submit personal info, grant request description, artist statement, artistic proposal, and budget: The online application consists of seven mandatory tasks, including personal information/professional history, description of grant request, artist statement, artistic proposal, and budget.
  • Submit a portfolio of six representative works from the last two years plus one installation view: Images of six representative works produced by the applicant alone within the two years preceding the application, plus an installation view of one work in the portfolio, are required.
  • Have a referee submit a letter of recommendation directly through the application site: A letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, artist, or curator familiar with the applicant and their work must be submitted directly through the application portal by the referee.
  • Apply online before the current application cycle's close date: Applications must be submitted through the official online portal before the cycle close date; applications by email or physical mail are not accepted. Grant funds may only be used for future expenses.
