Application requirements
- Complete Phase 1 online application: Phase 1 opens Aug 3 and closes Sep 30 each year for students graduating the following academic year. No essays, transcript, or recommendations in Phase 1.
- Confirm eligibility before applying: U.S. high school senior; U.S. citizen/national/permanent resident or eligible federal-aid statuses; minimum 3.0 GPA; planning accredited U.S. post-secondary study.
- Submit Phase 2 materials if named Semifinalist: About 1% of applicants are named Semifinalists by end of October and invited to complete Phase 2 in November, including essays, transcript, and one recommendation.
- Complete regional finalist interview if invited: From Semifinalists, 250 advance as Regional Finalists and participate in a final interview with alumni/staff in late January or early February.
