The Laboratory Learning Program is a free, full-time summer research internship placing local New Jersey high school students into Princeton University science and engineering labs for 5-6 weeks under faculty and staff supervision. It is a commuter-only outreach program (no housing or transportation provided, no virtual option) restricted to U.S. citizens enrolled in local NJ high schools who are at least 16 by June 15.

Application requirements
- Submit one online application during the open window (Feb 15 - Mar 15, 2026 for the 2026 cycle): Only one application per student is accepted; no supplemental materials or recommendations are accepted at the time of application.
- Select a specific research opportunity/lab that matches all stated eligibility requirements: Research opportunities and their requirements are posted on the LLP site and change each year based on participating faculty.
- Confirm eligibility: at least 16 by June 15, 2026, U.S. citizen, enrolled in a local NJ high school: Green cards, EAD, or permanent residency cards are not accepted in place of citizenship; local housing/school enrollment is verified during the application process.
- If selected: submit parental consent form, proof of health insurance, and a high school teacher nomination form: Transcripts and reference letters are not required at application time but are required after selection, along with proof of housing and transportation arrangements.
- Complete required safety training before beginning laboratory work
