- Create or resume the online MITES application: MITES Summer and MITES Semester share one application; applicants can choose one or both national programs.
- Enter academic information and upload an unofficial transcript: The transcript should include GPA and completed courses from 9th and 10th grades plus first-quarter 11th-grade courses if available.
- Complete the six short-answer responses: Most short responses have a maximum of 300 words; one MITES-fit prompt is listed as 400 words max.
- Report extracurricular activities: MITES uses this section to understand applicants' interests and passions outside the classroom.
- Send three recommendation requests: MITES requires one math/science teacher, one humanities teacher, and one school counselor or administrator recommendation through the online portal.
- Submit standardized test scores if available: Test scores are not required, but MITES says applicants are strongly encouraged to submit at least one available standardized-test score.
