An intensive seven-week Texas Tech research program for highly qualified rising high school seniors and recent high school graduates. Scholars conduct hands-on research with faculty and receive campus room, board, programming, and a stipend after completing a successful research report.

Application requirements

  • Create an account and complete the online application: Applicants create an account from the Clark Scholars application site, save each section, and submit by the published deadline.
  • Complete the required short essays: Texas Tech says short essays are required and publishes prompts/limits for applicants to prepare in advance.
    Essay prompts
    • Describe your primary research interests and potential project ideas, being very specific 2,000 characters including spaces
    • Describe your secondary research interest, being very specific 2,000 characters including spaces
    • Tell the Selection Committee about yourself and your reasons for applying to the Clark Scholarship Program. Please include your future goals and how becoming a Clark Scholar would contribute to achieving those goals 2,000 characters including spaces
    • Tell us about your most fulfilling service experience. This can be through an organization within or outside school 1,500 characters including spaces
  • Upload transcript and standardized-test score report: Unofficial transcripts and score reports are accepted; at least a PSAT or PACT score is required if SAT/ACT scores are unavailable.
  • Request three recommendations: Three recommendations are required; at least two must be from teachers and all are completed through an online questionnaire.
  • List top five activities and accomplishments: The program asks applicants to list their five most important involvement activities or accomplishments; extra activity lists/resumes are not accepted.
