PhysicsBowl is AAPT's annual multiple-choice physics exam (40 questions, 45 minutes) for high school students, offered in two divisions for first- and second-year physics students, administered by schools nationally and internationally.

Special eligibility to verify

  • Must be registered by a school through a teacher/proctor; individual students cannot self-register: Registration requires an official school email address for the proctor (personal emails not accepted). The exam must be proctored by a qualified individual who is not a parent or relative of a participant.

Application requirements

  • A teacher/school registers online (credit card) or by mailing a printable form with check/purchase order: Form can also be emailed to programs@aapt.org.
  • Pay $10 per registered student
  • Arrange a qualified proctor (not a parent/relative) with a verifiable official school email
  • Administer the 40-question, 45-minute exam on one day within the official testing window: 2026 window was March 18 - April 3, 2026.
