NCF-Envirothon is described as North America's largest high school environmental education competition; state, provincial, and partner-nation champion teams advance to an annual international final featuring five environmental knowledge stations (aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, wildlife, and a current environmental issue) plus an oral presentation.

Application requirements
- Qualify by placing first in a state, provincial, or partner-nation Envirothon competition: Direct entry to the NCF-Envirothon national/international final is not available; teams must first win their own state/provincial/partner-nation program.
- Submit the qualifying team's national registration and pay the team registration fee: 2026 team registration fee deadline is June 1, 2026; late registrations after this date incur a $150 USD late fee.
- Team Advisor(s)/Chaperone(s) submit Advisor/Chaperone Information and Adult Medical/Insurance forms
- Each student submits Team Member Registration and Medical/Insurance Information forms (with parental/guardian consent if under 18): Deadline for all other registration forms is June 5, 2026 (Maine, Ohio, and Maryland teams have extended state-specific deadlines).
- Attend and compete in the five knowledge stations and oral presentation at the national/international final
